Being onsite vastly improves the quality of the problem solving we do, the work we deliver and the value we add to our clients. We are one of the largest providers of onsite Geotechs and support Geotech personnel across Australia.

Our Journey

A meeting of forward-thinking like minds sparked the creation of Operational Geotechs. Trent Nester and Ben Barsanti founded the company in 2016, recognising how  beneficial it would be for mining companies to be able to pull in additional geotechnical expertise as and when required to enhance their critical decision making.

Having completed undergraduate degrees in Geotechnical Engineering – a qualification no longer on offer in Australia – and with an impressive depth of on-site experience, Ben and Trent swiftly set about growing the Operational Geotechs team. Ash Page, with a similar academic background, took up a directorship in 2020 to drive the technician services offering of OG.

The company’s mission was, and still is, to seek out good people with:

  • superior communication skills
  • a flexible and transparent approach, &
  • a strong work ethic.

Operational Geotechs quickly attracted the right talent and now boasts a diverse team of skilled experts dedicated to ongoing training and development.

With its continued commitment to place good people on-site (for the short or long-term) to offer the highest level of support to clients, Operational Geotechs is now one of the largest contracting firms of its type in Australia. 

The company is retaining this same successful business approach as it shares its vast geotechnical knowledge further afield. It has already established a solid footprint in Australia, and is now expanding into North America, Canada, Europe and Africa under the guidance of founding director, Ben Barsanti.
